Architect Specification Guide

Guidance for architects specifying wallcovering and decorative finish scopes on luxury and historic projects.

For architects working on historic renovation or luxury new construction, wallcovering and decorative finish scopes are best specified early — substrate preparation requirements (skim coating, moisture barriers, lining paper) can affect framing, HVAC, and vapor barrier decisions upstream.

We work directly with architecture firms to review substrate specifications before drywall or plaster finishing is complete, avoiding costly rework when a specified wallcovering requires a different wall assembly than what was drawn.

For National Register or Board of Architectural Review projects, we provide historic documentation and material specification letters suitable for submission to preservation review boards.
